The name “Бах” is familiar to any learned person, and there was a time when it sounded pretty common but not with reference to Johann Sebastian. In Swabia of the 17th century there were a lot of people bearing this name, and almost all of them were musicians. If one’s craft was music, his name was Bach almost for sure. And in those days whoever played musical instruments, wrote music as well. Can you imagine how much music was created by the Bachs? Of course, not all of it was perfect, but there was no lack of outstanding gifted musicians among Johann Sebastian’s relatives. A curious fact is that they loved to come together from various towns for musical meetings, something like modern jam sessions. Tonight’s program is a reconstruction of such a party uniting grandfathers, uncles, sons and other relatives of the great Johann Sebastian.
