It may seem that the wish to escape to virtual reality is a characteristic of our time. But al long ago as in the 18th century people were also willing to have a “virtual” holiday playing shepherds. Pastorale was very fashionable, and Vivaldi’s famous Four Seasons is also a sort of poetic description of rural lifestyle.
Besides Vivaldi’s masterpiece we are going to listen to pastorales by J. S. Bach and D. Zipoli and J. Pachelbel’s fugue Nightingale.
The choice of the instruments follows the traditions of chamber music of the Baroque period: violin, cello and organ.
G. F. Handel
Water music suite No. 2, HWV 349
J. S. Bach
Pastorale, BWV 590
The Nightingale (fugue)
The Four Seasons (arr. for violin, cello and organ)
Please note that the programme may be subject to change.
