Illuminated manuscripts represent an independent genre. In the Middle Ages books were pieces of luxury, created with a special attitude. It was during the same epoch that the tradition of decorating books with color illustrations developed. How wonderful these picturesque miniatures were! From a refined floral page frame to a whole scene that was often put inside a capital letter. It is a pity this tradition faded away after the invention of the printing press! To remind of it, tonight’s recital is going to illustrate words and sounds with paintings of old masters. The program is a collection of musical miniatures based on various Biblical themes. We are going to listen to masterpieces by J.S. Bach and R. Schumann and to some rare compositions, including an anonymous one. As the three arts are combined, we enjoy the richness of subtle and exquisite details of each image.
