Sometimes we feel tired of too many new conceptual versions and long for something classical, for proven quality without surprises. Tonight’s recital is exactly of this kind: only organ and only Bach. The organist, Lyudmila Golub, is an acknowledged figure of the organ world. She has collaborated with Y. Menuhin, P. Boulez, E. Svetlanov and other legendary musicians. Her repertoire includes most of Bach’s compositions, the complete works of J. Brahms and W.A. Mozart, some pieces by C. Franck and French romantic composers. At the same time she appreciates the music of the 20th century, for example the compositions of A. Schnittke and S. Gubaydulina. This versatility benefits her interpretations of Bach’s masterpieces, indeed the German genius had an inquiring mind too and never failed to pay attention to the artistic work of his contemporaries.
