Sometimes an outstanding singer becomes a symbol of a whole musical epoch. This is the case of Farinelli the castrato, about whom a movie was made recently. For a long time his job was to sing for the king every day. Not only was he an amazing musician, but also an educated interlocutor. Maybe Farinelli’s success was the reason why castrato singing acquired tremendous popularity in the Baroque era. Composers created vocal pieces especially for castrati whose voice is more versatile and flexible than the female one. Nowadays countertenor singing is a developing tradition which allows to avoid physical intervention on the human body. Countertenor Rustam Yavaev presents vocal compositions by Vivaldi, Bach, Handel and Hasse accompanied on the organ. His interpretation of the music of the Baroque era is always of high quality. The concert also features Bach’s masterpieces for solo organ presented by the renowned Russian organist Maria Moiseeva.
