A mixture of old and new on the Old New Year day!
Jazz arrangements of the pieces of great geniuses and famous classic compositions, from Bach to Purcell!
Music is like a vast sea. Every new wave gives birth to new forms and styles, but the composition of water remains the same for centuries. Perhaps this very fact inspired the famous countertenor Nikolay Gladskikh to plunge into the depths of Baroque music searching for the origins of Jazz. He discovered that the songs by Purcell and Frescobaldi are surprisingly close to Swing and Blues, and that Durante’s famous arietta sounds excellent with Latino beats. The singer’s unexpected discoveries were supported by the “Sedov Jazz Trio”: Vladimir Sedov (piano), Pavel Demidov (percussion) and Sergey Sutyagin (contrabass). Thus a unique project was created, “JazzAntique”, in which a countertenor, symbol of the Baroque age, is the soloist of a classical Jazz trio. This daring experiment implies improvisation and strong changes of the structure of famous 17-18th centuries pieces. However fragments of original Baroque compositions will also be there, as well as the usual harpsichord.
It does not happen very often that singers create projects, and moreover such unconventional ones. But Nikolay Gladskikh, though being highly professional, does not confine himself to corporate commitments. Besides he himself is a versatile personality, not only a vocalist who graduated from the Royal Conservatoire in the Netherlands, but also a professional actor, a graduate of the famous GITIS, the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (Roman Viktyuk’s studio).
Thus, J.S. Bach, H. Purcell, G. Frescobaldi, A. Scarlatti, J. Dowland, A. Vivaldi, G. Caccini and F. Durante are invited to a Jazz jam session.
