Programme: Ave Maria by famous composers

Ave Maria… The word”Ave” means “rejoice”. This is what the angel told the Blessed Virgin bringing her the good announcement. We often long for such an invitation to rejoice, sounding strong and benevolent. And sometimes music gives it to us… In a cathedral housing a genuing church organ it is especially powerful!

Schubert’s melody is one of those pieces of music that offer us special strength and drive our weariness away. The continious longing for the feast finally comes true. We realise that Christmas is coming, and spring will follow it soon. There is another “Ave Maria” full of joy, the one attributed to Caccini. And indeed it is strange that it was not composed by a musician of the sunny Italy, but came into being in a city that no longer exists, in Leningrad.

Titular organist of the Roman Catholic Cathedral in Moscow

Celestial classics for organ and voice!

Pre Christmas mood is very important! The holyday in itself is a brief moment, a mote of dust in a sunbeam. We live in expectation. And we can create it ourselves, as a painter creates his pictures. And we can fill our whole December with it.
